Belagavi: Mining and illegal transporation of sand is taking place rampantly across Gokak taluk due to the alleged negligence of district
administration and district minister Ramesh Jarkiholi.

Alleging that the district administration has remained a mute spectator to the illegal developments, president of Karnataka Yuva Rakshna Sainya Prabhakar Gaggadi has demanded a stern action against the illegal
activities.
At a press conference in Bealgavi, Mr Gugari regretted that his appeal to various authorities including DC, SP and Home Minister to get the illegal mining and transporation of sand stopped met with failure. He said, a notice also has been issued by the High Court to Belagavi DC on january 27 in connection with a PIL filed against sand mining in the district.

Alleging that the DC was reluctant to inquire Jarkiholi brothers even as High Court directed him to take up their inquiry with regard
to rampant sand loot in the district. Although, district administration claims to have registered cases against 182 persons with regard to sand mining, why did it not file cases against Jarkiholi brothers, he questioned while stating that the DC was hesitant to take actionagainst influential politicians.
