Belagavi: The Election Commission should declare Vijayapura city as `hypersensitive constituency’ and deploy paramilitary force there to make way for a free and fair election on May 12, demanded former union minister and BJP candidate from Vijayapura Basangouda Patil Yatnal. Calling his Congress rival from Vijayapura Abdul Hameed Mushrif as a leader with criminal background at a press conference, Yatnal said, Mushrif did not disclose information about several criminal cases in which he was involved during the filing of his nomination papers.

Mushrif continued his goonda activities and it came to light that he threatened Mohammad Sajid Loni, candidate of Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP) to withdraw his nomination papers and even kidnapped Loni”s daughter, alleged Yatnal. He urged the EC to consider such incidents very seriously and declare Vijayapura as a “hypersensitive constituency.” Urging the EC to order for deployment of paramilitary force in the city, Yatnal also demanded externment of all rowdies from Vijayapura city until the elections got over.
