Belagavi: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Belagavi airport by flying a 100-ft tall national flag. Member of Parliament Suresh Angadi expressed his wish to have more flights from Belagavi airport under the UDAN Scheme.The MP said, the airport had the potential to get more flights in the coming days and expressed hope that UDAN Sheme would help in giving a new shape to the airport.Belagavi Rural MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar also addressed the gathering highlighting the importance of ‘Unity in Diversity’.The conceptualization, installation and overall development of the tall tricolour project is a brainchild of Airports Authority of India (AAI). After hoisting of the National Flag, a special water cannon salute was given to the flag with the help of fire fighting vehicles of AAI. Officials of Fire Section and Motor Transport (MT) Section of Belagavi Airport were instrumental in successful completion of the Water Cannon Salute and were highly appreciated by one and all.
Various cultural events and activities were conducted by students of Aptech Aviation & Hospitality Academy, MBS School-Sambra, Janata High School-Balekundri and Shaikh Central School, Belagavi.
More than 300 students participated in the cultural activities and a total of about 450 people graced the event with their presence. Airport Director Rajesh Kumar Maurya proposed a vote of thanks.
