Belagavi: After former minister and MLA Satish Jarkiholi gave like national festival touch to the celebrations of Karnataka Rajyosthava at Belagavi, its the turn of Belagavi Kannada linguistic Mayor Basappa Chikkaldinni to hold an officials meeting to discuss about celebrating the state-day.
Mayor Chikkaldinni is the first mayor of Belagavi who convened the meeting of the official of the city corporation in the history of the corporation. He has arranged the meeting at corporation on Oct 11 for which he has also invited the Kannada activists.
According to sources, The meeting is expected to make mandatory of attending all the staff in the main programme and procession which the district administration organises after function at the corporation administrative office. The mayor has also planned to hoist National flag like Independence and Republic days on that day.
Though former Kannada mayors Siddangouda Patil, Prashanta Budavi, N B Nirwani and Yellappa Kurubar and their Kannada and Urdu linguistic deputies used to take part in the district administration’s programmes, did not thought about mayor Chikkaldinni of holding officials meeting.
A few of the Marathi linguistic mayors used to attend the preparatory meeting which the deputy commissioner presides, however, never participated in the district administration’s programmes fearing protest against them and their families by the pro-Maharashtrians and used to take part in the ‘Black Day’ programme which pro-Maharashtrians organise on Karnataka Rajyosthava day every year.
NATIONAL CELEBRATION TOUCH: MLA Satish Jarkiholi was the person who gave National touch to the Rajyosthava celebration at Belagavi by organising an official programme where the National Flag should be hoisted and state anthem sung after the National anthem. Earlier, the district incharge minister or deputy commissioner used to flag off to the procession by conducting pooja to the statue of Bhuvaneshwari in DC office campus. Jarkiholi changed the system and made all the government employees to take part in the main programme.
