Belagavi: Though government said banks not to proceed with the loan recovery of the farmers, hundreds of farmers under the banner of Raith Sangh closed the main door of HDFC bank on Congress road and locked it with the Green Shawl on Thursday.

Farmers shouted slogans against the bank for issuing the notice to Appanna Sankri from Kalliguddi village in Gokak taluk and warned him of attaching his pledged property is not paid the loan in allowed time. However, farmer Sankri was said to be cleared all the loan dues in 2014.

Farmers said that Sankri had obtained a loan of ₹9 lakh from the bank in 2012 and paid it back in two instalments ₹6 lakh and ₹3 lakh in 2014. He even was given the loan clearance letter from the bank as well. The notice of the bank has stunned and worried the Sankri family which made it approach the farmers’ organisation.

Meanwhile, farmer leaders said that the bank manager did not turned to the bank and their attempt to contact him on his cell phone went in vain as he has switched off the phone. Farmers have warned of agitating throughout the state if the mistake is not rectified.
